Urgent attention! Ports in China are congested before Chinese New Year, and cargo exports are affected
With the approach of the Chinese New Year (CNY), several major ports in China have experienced serious congestion, and about 2,000 containers are stranded at the port because there is nowhere to stack them. It has had a significant impact on logistics, foreign trade exports, and port operations.
According to the latest data, the cargo throughput and container throughput of many ports before Chinese New Year reached a record high. However, due to the approaching Spring Festival, many factories and enterprises have to rush to ship goods before the holiday, and the increase in cargo shipments has led to port congestion. In particular, major domestic ports such as Ningbo Zhoushan Port, Shanghai Port, and Shenzhen Yantian Port are particularly congested due to their huge cargo throughput.
Ports in the Pearl River Delta region are facing challenges such as port congestion, difficulty in finding trucks, and difficulty in dropping containers. The picture shows the trailer road situation at Shenzhen Yantian Port. It is still possible to move empty containers, but it is more serious with heavy containers. The time when drivers deliver goods to the warehouse is also uncertain. From January 20 to January 29, Yantian Port added 2,000 appointment numbers every day, but it was still not enough. The holiday is coming soon, and the congestion at the terminal will become more and more serious. This happens every year before Chinese New Year. That is why we remind customers and suppliers to ship in advance because trailer resources are very scarce.
This is also the reason why Senghor Logistics received good reviews from customers and suppliers. The more critical it is, the more it can reflect the professionalism and flexibility of the freight forwarder.
In addition, at Ningbo Zhoushan Port, the cargo throughput has exceeded 1.268 billion tons, and the container throughput has reached 36.145 million TEUs, a significant year-on-year increase. However, due to the limited capacity of the port yard and the reduction in transportation demand during Chinese New Year, a large number of containers cannot be unloaded and stacked in time. According to port staff, about 2,000 containers are currently stranded at the port because there is nowhere to stack them, which has brought considerable pressure to the normal operation of the port.
Similarly, Shanghai Port is facing a similar dilemma. As one of the ports with the largest container throughput in the world, Shanghai Port also experienced severe congestion before the holiday. Although the ports have taken a series of measures to ease the congestion, the congestion problem is still difficult to be effectively solved in a short period of time due to the huge amount of cargo.
In addition to Ningbo Zhoushan Port, Shanghai Port, Shenzhen Yantian Port, other major ports such as Qingdao Port and Guangzhou Port have also experienced varying degrees of congestion. At the end of each year, in order to avoid emptying ships during the New Year holidays, shipping companies often collect containers in large quantities, causing the terminal container yard to be overwhelmed and the containers piled up like mountains.
Senghor Logistics reminds all cargo owners that if you have goods to ship before the Chinese New Year, please confirm the shipping schedule and make the shipping plan reasonably to reduce the risk of delays.
