As the global cargo volume begins to pick up, after major shipping companies announced on April 15 that they would impose GRI surcharges, Evergreen and Yang Ming recently announced that they will add GRI surcharges again from May 1.
Evergreen’s notice to the logistics industry shows that starting from May 1 this year, it is expected that the Far East, South Africa, East Africa, and the Middle East to the United States and Puerto Rico will increase the GRI of 20-foot containers by US$900; the GRI of 40-foot containers will be charged an additional US$1,000; The 45-foot-high container charges an extra $1,266; the 20-foot and 40-foot refrigerated containers increase the price by $1,000.
Yangming has also informed customers that the Far East-North America freight rate will increase slightly depending on the route. On average, about 20 feet will be charged an additional $900; 40 feet will be charged an additional $1,000; special containers will be charged an additional $1,125; and 45 feet will be charged an additional $1,266.
In addition, the global shipping industry generally believes that freight rates should return to normal levels. Of course, the increase of GRI by some shipping companies this time has already happened, and the shippers and forwarders who have shipped recently should communicate with shipping companies and customers in advance to avoid affecting shipments.
