The December price increase notice! Major shipping companies announced: Freight rates on these routes continue to rise.
Recently, several shipping companies have announced a new round of December freight rate adjustment plans. Shipping companies such as MSC, Hapag-Lloyd, and Maersk have successively adjusted the rates of some routes, involving Europe, the Mediterranean, Australia and New Zealand routes, etc.
MSC announced the adjustment of the Far East to Europe rate
On November 14, MSC Mediterranean Shipping issued the latest announcement that it will adjust the freight standards from the Far East to Europe.
MSC announced the following new Diamond Tier Freight Rates (DT) for exports from Asia to Europe. Effective from December 1, 2024, but not exceeding December 14, 2024, from all Asian ports (including Japan, South Korea and Southeast Asia) to Northern Europe, unless otherwise stated.
In addition, due to the impact of the Canadian port strike, many ports are currently congested, so MSC announced that it will implement a congestion surcharge (CGS) to ensure service continuity.
Hapag-Lloyd raises FAK rates between the Far East and Europe
On November 13, Hapag-Lloyd's official website announced that it would increase FAK rates between the Far East and Europe. Applicable to goods transported in 20-foot and 40-foot dry containers and refrigerated containers, including high-cube containers. It will take effect on December 1, 2024.
Maersk issued a December price increase notice
Recently, Maersk issued a December price increase notice: the freight rates for 20ft containers and 40ft containers from Asia to Rotterdam have been raised to US$3,900 and $6,000, respectively, an increase of US$750 and $1,500 from the previous time.
Maersk raised the peak season surcharge PSS from China to New Zealand, Fiji, French Polynesia, etc., which will take effect on December 1, 2024.
In addition, Maersk adjusted the peak season surcharge PSS from China, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Mongolia to Australia, Papua New Guinea, and the Solomon Islands, which will take effect on December 1, 2024. The effective date for Taiwan, China is December 15, 2024.
It is reported that shipping companies and shippers on the Asia-Europe route have now begun annual negotiations on the 2025 contract, and shipping companies hope to increase spot freight rates (as a guide to the level of contract freight rates) as much as possible. However, the freight rate increase plan in mid-November failed to achieve the expected results. Recently, shipping companies have continued to support freight rates with price increase strategies, and the effect remains to be observed. But it also shows the determination of mainstream shipping companies to stabilize freight rates to maintain long-term contract prices.
Maersk's December price increase notice is a microcosm of the current trend of rising freight rates in the international shipping market. Senghor Logistics reminds: Cargo owners need to pay close attention to changes in freight rates and confirm with freight forwarders the freight rates corresponding to your shipping schedule so as to adjust shipping solutions and cost budgets in a timely manner. Shipping companies make frequent adjustments to freight rates, and freight rates are volatile. If you have a shipping plan, make preparations early to avoid affecting shipments!
