Recently, Thailand's Prime Minister proposed moving the Port of Bangkok away from the capital, and the government is committed to solving the pollution problem caused by trucks entering and leaving the Port of Bangkok every day. The Thai government cabinet subsequently requested the Ministry of Transport and other agencies to cooperate in studying the issue of port relocation. In addition to the port, warehouses and oil storage facilities must also be moved. The Port Authority of Thailand hopes to relocate the Bangkok Port to Laem Chabang Port and then redevelop the port area to solve problems such as community poverty, traffic congestion, and air pollution.

Bangkok Port is operated by the Ports Authority of Thailand and is located on the Chao Phraya River. Construction of Bangkok Port began in 1938 and was completed after World War II. The Bangkok Port Area is mainly composed of East and West Piers. The West Pier docks ordinary ships, and the East Pier is mainly used for containers. The main terminal berth shoreline of the port area is 1900m long and the maximum water depth is 8.2m. Due to the shallow water of the terminal, it can only accommodate ships of 10,000 deadweight tons and container ships of 500TEU. Therefore, only feeder ships bound for Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore and other places can berth.

Due to the limited handling capacity of large ships in Bangkok Port, it is necessary to develop large ports to cope with the increasing number of ships and cargo as the economy grows. The Thai government therefore accelerated the construction of Laem Chabang Port, Bangkok's outer port. The port was completed at the end of 1990 and put into use in January 1991. Laem Chabang Port is currently one of the major ports in Asia. In 2022, it will complete container throughput of 8.3354 million TEUs, reaching 77% of its capacity. The port is also undergoing construction of the third phase of the project, which will further increase container and ro-ro handling capacity.

This period also coincides with the Thai New Year - Songkran Festival, a public holiday in Thailand from April 12th to 16th. Senghor Logistics reminds: During this period, Thailand's logistics transportation, port operations, warehouse services and cargo delivery will be delayed.

Senghor Logistics will also communicate with our Thai customers in advance and ask them when they want to receive the goods due to the long holiday. If customers hope to receive goods before the holidays, we will remind customers and suppliers to prepare and ship goods in advance, so that the goods will be less affected by the holidays after being transported from China to Thailand. If the customer hopes to receive the goods after the holidays, we will store the goods in our warehouse first, and then check the appropriate shipping date or flight to ship the goods to the customers.

Finally, Senghor Logistics wish all Thai people a happy Songkran Festival and hope you have a wonderful holiday! :)
